You're welcome to visit our working property at 40911 FM 149 in Magnolia and walk through plants, trees, stone, and rock with our team. You point to what you like and what you don't — that's how we build your vision into the plan.

Before anything goes in the ground, we walk your site together and show you exactly where every plant, bed, and tree will be placed. You see the plan in real space before installation begins.

Cost depends on a lot more than most homeowners expect. It comes down to the scope of what's included (landscape design and planting, irrigation, drainage, privacy screening, pool landscaping, stone borders, boulders, dry creek beds, or some combination of these), the size of your house and property, and the size and type of trees and plants you choose. Here's a rough sense of what similar projects have run:
  • Front yard redo, small to medium lots (such as Audubon and Woodforest): $3,000 to $15,000 or more
  • Front yard redo, larger lots and acreage (such as High Meadow Ranch acreage lots or large lots in Kresston): $5,000 to $25,000 or more
  • Backyard-only redo: similar range to a front yard redo, smaller yards toward the lower end, larger yards toward the higher end
  • Backyard projects that combine pool landscaping, privacy screening, irrigation, drainage, and sod: $10,000 to $30,000 or more
  • New construction from bare ground: irrigation, drainage, hardscaping, and landscaping, $20,000 to $75,000 or more

You can plant here throughout the year, but some seasons make it easier on the plant than others. Fall is generally the best window, cooler temperatures let new plants and trees establish strong roots before summer heat arrives, and spring works well too. Certain plants, like shade trees and azaleas, have a harder time getting established if they're planted during the peak of July or August heat, though we can still plant successfully with the right watering, fertilizing, and root care afterward. New construction is one of our specialties. If you've just built a home and are starting from bare dirt, most builders leave you with small nursery stock and tell you to wait years for it to fill in. We grow many of our own trees on our family tree farm, so your property can start with mature trees already offering real shade and privacy from day one. Our process starts with a phone call where we listen to your vision for the property. John then visits in person to see the site, the light, and how water moves across the land, before any design work begins. If trees and plants are part of the plan, you're welcome to walk our property at 40911 FM 149 in Magnolia and point to actual plants and trees you like, rather than picking from a catalog. We use what you're drawn to and what the space allows as the foundation for the design, balancing sun and shade, growth patterns at maturity, layering heights so nothing looks flat, and staggering color and bloom times through the seasons so your beds aren't bursting for two months and bare the rest of the year. Once the plan is set, we walk the site with you again before anything goes in the ground, the same crew that designed your project installs it, and John stays on through the final walkthrough.
New trees and shrubs are covered by a 12-month warranty provided the below: the warranty doesn't cover things outside anyone's control, including acts of God, disease, freeze damage, neglect, or improper watering. In order for trees to be covered, they need a bubbler installed at planting to stay covered, and shrubs need to be on an automated sprinkler system. Annual flowers and sod aren't covered under warranty.
New Yards isn't trying to be a large, cookie-cutter landscaping company. We stay focused on what we do well, design, hardscaping, trees, drainage, and pool landscaping, rather than taking on weekly mowing, paver patios, or outdoor kitchens just to capture more business. That focus shows up in the details: John personally tests plant material before it's ever offered to a client, and on one project he visited seven different rock yards to find stone with the right character, shade, and texture for that specific property. Every boulder, tree, and plant gets placed to show its best face from the angle you'll actually see it from. If you want the fastest, cheapest option, a larger volume company may be a better fit. If you want someone local who's spent 30-plus years learning what actually works in Magnolia's soil and climate, and who treats your yard like it's the only one on the schedule that day, that's who we are. One reviewer put it this way after switching from a previous landscaper: "If you are not using New Yards, you are missing out."
Choosing plants without regard for the specific spot they're going into. We've heard from homeowners who paid a previous landscaper a lot of money and ended up with the same handful of plants repeated across the whole yard, regardless of whether a spot got full sun or deep shade, plants that don't match their conditions won't thrive no matter what you were promised. Skipping the bubbler on a new tree or the automated sprinkler a shrub needs is another common one, and so is planting before drainage gets addressed, a design that looks great on paper can fail within a season if water isn't routed first. Local knowledge matters here too: greater Houston has real microclimates, what thrives in Friendswood near the coast can fail in Plantersville, where winter freezes hit harder, which is part of why hiring a landscaper unfamiliar with Montgomery and Grimes County conditions is its own kind of risk.
We work alongside you and guide you through figuring out your community's HOA requirements. Some HOAs require approval for major front or back yard landscape improvements. Others just require certain setbacks from the fence line for tree installs, while some have their own tree caliper requirements or screening requirements. We'll work together to make the process as seamless as possible, including in neighborhoods like Woodforest, Bentwater, High Meadow Ranch, and Audubon.
